Maybe a bit too specialized for this blog but this chart below might help someone to make an informed choice when buying a Ludwig classic snare. One cannot go very wrong with a Supraphonic 400 or Acrolyte from the 60's and 70's. These snares did record very well, still record very well and will probably carry on doing a good to great job for decades to come. Obviously, their sound varies (no instruments are born equal) but in my experience, quality and sound are pretty consistent for the whole of that era.
